Opticians and taxis

Well i went to the opticians...And she had a damn good look inside my eye...Well she had a good look in them both but spent ages on the one i hurt...She said that sometimes if you knock your eye like i did then it can take several weeks to feel right again...but no detached retina or anything :o) ...Basically it must still be in shock...And i do still have 20/20 vision and she didn't seem too pissed off that i don't need reading glasses yet even though am technically OLD <g>  Thank goodness i don't need any as K's i bought her for her birthday cost a fortune...But they were bogof so she got two pairs from the designer range as it was cheaper than the student discount and having to buy 2 pairs...And she needed two different types of lenses...So am just waiting on letter or call from physio...The swelling is beginning to go down a bit :o) Still not managing to sleep right though.

M's taxi decided to not bother coming to pick him up today...I phoned the school at about 8.50am to see if his taxi had arrived minus him....His taxi wasn't there yet but i got phoned back at 9.05am to see if he'd been picked up...Which he hadn't been and he was getting more and more aigtated...And of course i can't drive yet...Anyways the deputy head said she'd phone the taxi firm to see what was going on...So at 9.20am the headteacher phoned...M's taxi had arrived at usual time but the deputy head had forgotten which taxi he was on...She'd ordered another taxi to come an fetch him...The firm were blaming the school or anyone but themselves...Now last week his taxi for his SEN school turned up EVERY DAY...This was despite him being on a taxi for the other school on a thurs and being at college on the fri...On fri i told the escort (it's a stand in one) that M ONLY gets picked up on that taxi on MON, TUES and WED...His escort has broken her leg and they don't have a regular driver...But hey it's the schools fault NOT the firms according to the firms office...They NEVER take the blame even when it is THEIR fault...A taxi turned up about 5 mins after headteacher phoned me...I went down with M as by that time he was in a bit of a state...The driver was really nice and he said he wondered why he'd been called to come to us...He'd already been sent to pick up a pupil who was NOT going in today...He said his office are useless LOL...And tonight instead of arriving home at around 3.45-3.50pm he got back home at 4.25pm so goodness knows what is going on...I think tomorrow i will phone the firm and remind them to come and fetch M for school...He has maths tomorrow and is picked up from his SEN school at 9.10am to go to the mainstream school...He'll go ballistic if he misses his maths and so will i and his SEN school...Not my only beef with taxis...Here we have one of the most expensive taxi rates in the whole of the UK...Taxis in London are a heck of a lot cheaper than here...Yesterday i really needed to do a major food shop...None of my friends could take me so i thought i'll go to Sainsburys as it's close to here...So taxi comes to get me...£3 to sit your bum in the flipping car, £1 charge for phoning to get a taxi and then 80p was how much it had gone over the £3 standing charge...It's less than a mile FFS...Of course i needed a taxi to take me home as well so that was another £4.80...I let the driver who took me home keep the 20p change because he did at least load and unload my shopping for me...Anyways with prices that high they don't need a flipping tip.

Toodle pip tc xx

Caff I am glad there is no permanent damage to your eye ~ and happy you don't need glasses ~ what a palaver over M's Taxi and what a price to have to pay for your cab ~ that is downright daylight robbery ~ Ally x

Am glad the eye is shaken and just needs it's own time to recover Caff. If ever I've had to have a taxi, I've hated the waiting around for it to turn up so I sympathize with M.  Wouldn't you be cheaper doing on-line shopping until you can drive again. Rache

That's almost as much as I usually need to pay to get to Asdas and back if I end up doing a food job sans nice-uncle-with-a-car... and the nice drivers never ever let me load my shopping in the taxi AND take it right up to the door from the kerb... It's only a £2 base charge here, 20p tops if you phone to book, and 20p increments...

What a nightmare with the taxi firm!!  That's mad those prices.  It's no wonder people don't use public transport like that isn't it!!!
