Forms again

Well the appointment with man from DSS went fine :o)  He said what we were doing was really the cart before the horse LOL...He filled in the bit of the form i needed to do to become G's appointee and i signed it...He's ticked box saying G isn't capable of looking after his own affairs regarding DLA although he hasn't met him LOL...He just went by what i said and what his condition is...Then i popped up to my doctors and got the nice receptionist...Told her that i need an official letter from the doctor stating G is not capable of doing it himself...She knows it's always nice Dr Scott we see if possible so she's going to get him to do the letter when he's in next week...He only works mon & tues in that surgery and does a wed in their other surgery...I'll pick it up next week and then go and hand it in to the nice blokey from DSS...The man i got actually helps people fill in the DLA form if they're unsure on what to do...He certainly knew what he was talking about and said remember you have to fill in the WORST day possible that your son can have...It's not cheating the system although that can come across sounding like that...With autistic spectrum disorders and other mental health disabilities they can change drastically from day to day...Some may be able to go a couple of weeks feeling fine then it will kick in big time and spend the next few weeks totally in grip of whatever it is they have :o(  Actually with ASD's they can change from minute to minute, hour to hour let alone day to day or week to week...Anyways i digress kinda...I went into the local carers centre to ask if i could get an appointment with someone to tell me how to deal with the differences in the DLA form...G is now classed an adult by them as he is 16 and the form is different in a lot of places...So i now need to get my head round filling in adult form after years of filling in the ones for under 16s...Lovely NOT...This time i am keeping everything crossed that G is also awarded his for LIFE...It's not like there is a cure for his condition...Yes he is far more capable now than i ever thought he would be BUT the coping strategies he has could collapse around him at any time

M had that today...I got rather worried by 4.15pm as he wasn't home yet from school...I went out and looked around and asked in corner shop if they had seen him...I phoned his taxi escort at 4.30pm and got one of her kids...The taxi had broken down or something and they had just managed to get another taxi to take them home...So when M came in the door at about 4.45 he was not in best of moods...I asked what had happened and he said the driver refused to take him to our flat!!!...I'll phone his school tomorrow morning and find out what was going on <sigh> ...When his routine goes bananas like this then he can't handle it at all and goes on the defensive and won't talk about it...Apart from that it's been an uneventful day although it was warm and sunny...It's turned cold but still sunny now though...So time for a coffee and maybe something to eat...M's already eaten, G won't till later and to be honest i feel far too disgusted with all the water retention to want to eat anything but know i have to...Hmmm salad i think LOL

Hi Caff,  Hopefully once you have G`s forms sorted that will be the last time you have to do it.  At least the bloke from the DSS was really nice and helpful to you.  There should be more around like him.  I hope you enjoyed the salad. :o)

I think it's ridiculous that any 16 year old has to fill in that form, can you imagine if they didn't do something quite right and got turned down, ridiculous. And then if they paid the money direct to them, what are you supposed to use to look after them. Geeesh

Its a nightmare isnt it. If your son could fill that form in he wouldnt need to claim . . dont they realise that? Glad the meeting went well and your doctor sounds nice.

Sounds good that you've managed to find some people that can not only help but know what they are talking about :-)  Good luck with it all xx Hope M is ok!!
