Well 19 years ago today i had one of the most painful but most wonderful days of my life...Little did i know when i woke up that morning that by afternoon i would be a mum...I didn't know i was pregnant and had always laughed when reading about unexpected babies arriving...I wasn't even overweight back then far from it...My stomach was flatter than flat and i had no signs of being pregnant...But that morning 19 years ago i woke up thinking i had a severe case of food poisoning...I phoned my work and said i wouldn't be in as i felt so yeuch...Someone who lived in the block back then heard me screaming and crying in agony and came in to see if i was alright...Lucky the door was unlocked...They phoned an ambulance...One arrived really quickly and i was checked over and one of the ambulancemen turned and said to the other one to get a chair and a blanket i was going to the maternity hospital...Between screams of pain i shouted 'why the matty am not preggers'...Got told you're in 2nd stage labour dear...I got to the hospital around 10am and K made her appearance at 11.05am...Being so far gone i could have no pain relief cept for gas & air and that made me feel so sick i chucked it away LOL...An hour later they decided to come and stitch me up as i wasn't in a good way LOL...After that i was still bleeding so heavily that i was re-examined and then came a procession of one higher up person to the next until eventually the senior gynaecologist came along with an anaesthetist...I was whisked off to theatre to be restitched <ouch> And awoke later near tea time with a normal drip in one arm and a blood transfusion going into the other one...Too much info but tough <gggg>
I had a baby yikes what do i do with a baby...But she was cute and gorgeous and i loved her to bits...The next day i was worried though as she seemed to be a wee bit yellow...Now my sis in law had had a baby the previous year and she was slightly jaundiced so i asked a nurse...Got told it was just the lighting hmmm okies what do i know i didn't even know i was preggers...I wasn't some young kid at the time either i was 24 LOL...Next morning the nurses decided i had to have a shower so dragged me off to help me...Came back and no baby...Docs had been round and whisked her off to put her under the white lights for jaundice...See i maybe didn't know i was preggers but i was right bout that...Well that night i actually fell asleep ok but as rudely awoken at 3am by a nurse saying my baby (no name at this point) was being taken upstairs and did i want to come...Mumbled something like i'll go in the morning...Fair enough but when another nurse woke me at 3.15am and started asking next of kin etc i got a huge fright...I may not have known i was having her but i didn't want to lose my baby...Upstairs back then was where the special nursery was...She was so badly jaundiced they were putting her under the stronger blue lights and back then that meant going into the special nursery...The docs up there had a very long serious chat with me and they had to check K's blood type...If her bilirubin count wasn't down to an acceptable level in 3 hours time then she was going to have to get a complete transfusion...Needless to say i didn't sleep again that day...It did come down but she had to get antibiotics...This was via a tap thing in her wrist...They put special eye patches on them and she just looked like she was on a sunbed and had a lovely tan...She stayed there for five days and back then you didn't get a room on your own if you were babyless :o( ...But my darling K is a fighter through and through...On the thurs evening she started moving up the enclosed cot she was in and started tapping on the end...She also pulled out the splint with the tap on it LOL...Another was put back in but when they checked her on the fri morning she'd done it again...She came back to me on the sat and we got out on the sun...We went up to my mums for a bit to stay and my mum and sisters had rallied round and got baby stuff for me :o) ...I know K reads my blog but she has heard this story plenty of times before as i didn't keep it secret...So HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARLING...I love you to bits and you were the most wonderful surprise i have ever had in my life :o) You have grown up to be a very pretty, intelligent, caring and wonderful young woman and me and your brothers love you to bits and we do miss you loads
I had M's annual review meeting early this morning after a rather hectic night...It went really well but i will leave speaking about it until tomorrow...I ended up babysitting for my best friend last night after my 2 were in bed...Her partner (the eejit) had accidently cut 2 of his fingers so she needed to rush him up to A&E...They didn't get back till really late and it was after 3am when i got home...They were told to come back today to the plastic surgery ward at 8.30 for a specialist to have a look...Well he's been operated on and has to stay in for 3-4 days...I reckon it's me and this time of year that makes daft things happen to people you know...Oh just before i go i am so excited...I need to be on the phone pronto at noon on fri to buy tickets to see The Killers...They're playing up here in feb!!!!...No-one huge plays gigs up here!!!!...It's just like not done at all...I so want to see them and i hope i manage to get through and get a ticket LOL
